Do I need a visa to travel to Portugal?
Visa requirements depend on your passport.
U.S. passport holders: no visa required
European Schengen passport holders: no visa required
ECOWAS passport holders: a Schengen short-stay visa (Type C) is required
Please refer to the Travel & Visa Information page for full details.
When should I book my flight?
The best time to book is typically between January and March. Prices tend to increase significantly after April. To arrive in Portugal on September 19, flights from the U.S. should depart on September 18.
What airport should I fly into?
The closest airport is Faro (FAO), which serves the Algarve region and is the most convenient option for Vilamoura.
Is there a recommended flight option?
There are several great options depending on where you’re traveling from. Newark (EWR) currently offers the only nonstop flight from the U.S. to Faro. A possible group option is being explored for this route—more details to come.
How do I get around once I’m there?
Taxis and ride shares are widely available, and no car is required unless you plan to explore farther afield.
Is there a schedule or set itinerary?
There will be a few shared moments throughout the weekend, but plenty of free time is intentionally built in. Guests are encouraged to explore Vilamoura at their own pace—solo or with others.
Do I need to book activities in advance?
Some activities will need to be booked in advance. For an idea of options, please see the activities page. More info on booking will be shared closer to the trip.
What should I pack?
Think coastal, comfortable, and easy.
Light layers
Comfortable walking shoes
Swimwear
Casual daytime outfits
Something relaxed but elevated for evenings
Portugal is stylish but unfussy
What will the weather be like?
September in the Algarve is typically warm and sunny, with pleasant evenings. Perfect for beach days and outdoor dining.
What currency is used?
Portugal uses the Euro (€). Credit cards are widely accepted, but it’s helpful to have a small amount of cash for taxis or smaller purchases.
Will English be spoken?
Yes. English is commonly spoken in Vilamoura, especially in restaurants, hotels, and shops.
